    Current research projects

   1. Possessive and objective reflexives in the Scandinavian languages.
      Postdoctoral research project. Do 'seg' and 'sin' have the 'same'
      distribution? Are they both syntactically bound, or do
      pragmatic/discourse/semantic factors play a role? Do the different
      Scandinavian languages treat 'seg' and 'sin' similarly or
      differently (within-group variation and between-group variation).
   2. Dummy Objects (Expletive objects) in Icelandic and Scandinavian.
      Postdoctoral research project. Why does Icelandic need a pronoun
      in many cases before a clause, where the other Scandinavian
      languages do not? Eg,

      Icelandic
      Þá megið þið gjarnan láta mig vita med *(því) [að senda mér mail]
      then may you.pl gladly let me know by EP to send me email

      Norwegian
      då kan dåke gjerne la meg veta ((om) det) med (*det) å senda meg
      ein epost


    Completed projects and studies

*Norwegian Definiteness and Specificity (NDS).* May-Sept 2007. Does
Norwegian have a 'specific' article, along with several 'definite'
articles? Results presented at ALS 2007 (presentation <ndsresults/NDS
ALS2007ppt.pdf>), Monash University lunchtime seminar, currently being
written up (download draft <ALS2007 NDS notes for talk.pdf>). You can

*Elite Women Basketballers project* Aug 2004-current. For this project,
19 recordings were made of 'stretching time' talk of a women's
basketball team in the Australian Basketball Association. (See
publications page <publications.html> for full references.)

*The Beer and Doona project.* Aug-Sept 2005. A preliminary study looking
at differences in meanings between reflexives and pronouns in Australian
English. Results presented at ALS 2005, and written up in the online
